getting into fights at school. getting picked on by bigger kids. being a bit scared of the walking by the neighboring school as i came home through the dark alley aged 10. this was all normal. i either i) learned how to fight, or ii) learned how to avoid danger.
Yes, it was normal to get picked on, and to get in fights. It wasn’t considered a big deal. My dad told me to fight back against bullies, and on occasions when I didn’t think that was going to work out, I learned to avoid trouble. That’s the way it was for everybody.
