We will spread the Let Grow mindset through:
Media - We will create videos, blogs, Facebook posts, etc., chronicling the positive effects of giving kids more independence and responsibility. We'll get media exposure for individuals who can attest to the positive effects of free, unsupervised time.
Curriculum - We will work to bring diverse viewpoints into schools, and convince principals, teachers, and school counselors that kids don't need to be treated as if they're emotionally fragile. We will examine social programs to see which work and which only create hypersensitivity.
Research - We are sponsoring research into the short- and long-term effects of overprotection and the upside of free play, free time and "beneficial risk." Our goal is to scientifically determine how much physical and emotional protection is truly necessary and how much is counterproductive. We will do cost-benefit analyses of childhood safety constraints. We will also study the effect of lawsuit mentality and insurance industry overreach.
Policy - We will work to prevent the criminalization of free speech, and free, unsupervised time.
Engagement - We are creating an online community of like-minded parents who can chat via our forums page and meet via our "Friend Finder" app. They will participate in Let Grow events online, such as "Kids in the Kitchen Thursdays," when all Let Grow members are encouraged to let their kids cook dinner. Moreover, these members serve as Let Grow Ambassadors, organizing potlucks, conversation groups, and block parties, re-knitting the social fabric in their communities.
