The Lighthouse State

SC Collage Image

Let Grow has been in South Carolina since 2019, when Kevin Stinehart was an early adopter at Central Academy of the Arts in Pickens. Since then, he’s been promoting Play Clubs across the state, and caught the attention of State Superintendent, Ellen Weaver. That led to connecting with Let Grow and the offer was made to be our Lighthouse State, promoting not just our Play Clubs, but our foundational program, The Let Grow Experience,  that builds resilience in students through a simple monthly homework assignment.  With Let Grow’s free programs complementing existing initiatives like  Free to Focus , the state is leading a growing movement to give kids more independence, responsibility, and free play.

South Carolina Educators Praise Let Grow

“South Carolina is shining a light for the rest of the country. By leading the way in giving kids more freedom to play, to take responsibility, and to grow, you’re building stronger, happier, more resilient students, setting a powerful example for other states to follow.”

Jonathan Haidt, Co-founder of Let Grow

Many kids don’t get the social interaction they need to develop into empowered adults. Play Club is an intentional way for us to provide that for our students.

Elementary School Teacher, Central, South Carolina

Thank you for leading and teaching “the entire child”, not just the subject matters in the books!

Father of 5th grader

I nudge him a little bit past his comfort zone every chance I get because he needs to know that I trust him to handle the situation — so he can trust himself.

Parent of a special needs child

My 8 year-old is marching off on her first trip to the town grocery store (.3mi away) to pick up something for the family. She’s got her Let Grow license in her pocket. I’m overwhelmed with emotion, and just wanted to say THANK YOU!

It’s hard to do but taking your eyes off them has tremendous confidence-building aspects. And solving their own issues amongst each other is essential!
