Thanks to a commenter noting on yesterday's post that Sesame Street has indeed re-made its classic "Loaf of bread, container of milk, stick of butter" story, we dug it up. Voila! It continues to be charming. It even uses the same soundtrack. Most importantly, the girl is still out and about, on her own, at a young age.
However, one of these things is not QUITE like the other. Old version:
The poignant tininess of the old young girl is gone.
But let's give credit where credit is due. Unlike Sesame Street's classic "Lost Dog" episode, where in the earlier version the kids looked for their dog on their own, and in the newer one mom is by their side, mom definitely stays home here while the spunky kid goes off on her odyssey alone. Best of all, instead of saying, "Thank God you got home safely!" or, "You are so brave!" the mom continues to simply compliment the girl's memory. She is chill with her daughter's independence.
In honor of that fictional duo, please inspire us with stories of your own kid's first errand!
